Be the First point of Contact

Ottawa AIS Telephone Answering Service (TAS)

The Telephone Answering Service (TAS) is often the first point of contact for newcomers who are becoming aware that they have been affected by another person’s drinking and are reaching out for help. A key message is that Al-Anon is always here and are ready to listen.

TAS volunteers are Al-Anon members with at least one year in the program. Volunteering with TAS provides an opportunity to share how the program has helped recovery from the impact of someone’s drinking. The TAS operates 7 days a week from 9:00am – 10:00pm.

Shifts are from 9:00am – 1:00pm, 1:00pm – 6:00pm and 6:00pm – 10:00pm.

Occasionally, a caller may talk about their situation. TAS volunteers offer listening and understanding. They do not suggest solutions to problems or give advice. In other calls, meeting or literature information may be requested.

A caller could also be an Al-Anon member from out of town who feels a need for a meeting while away from home.

The telephone number of any Al-Anon member is never shared.
